Ben Shneiderman은 메릴랜드 대학교 컴퓨터과학과의 명예 석좌 교수이며, 인간-컴퓨터 상호작용 연구소(HCIL)의 창립자이자 고등 컴퓨터 연구소(UMIACS)의 회원입니다. 

그는 인간-컴퓨터 상호작용(HCI)과 정보 시각화 분야의 선구자로, 클릭 가능한 하이퍼링크, 모바일 기기용 고정밀 터치스크린 키보드, 사진 태깅 기능 등을 개발했습니다. 

주요 저서로는 『Designing the User Interface』(6판, 2016), 『Readings in Information Visualization』(1999), 그리고 IEEE 문학상을 수상한 『Leonardo’s Laptop』(MIT Press)이 있습니다. 그는 미국 과학진흥협회(AAAS), 컴퓨터학회(ACM), 전기전자공학회(IEEE), 미국 발명가 아카데미(NAI), 시각화 아카데미의 펠로우이며, 미국 공학한림원(National Academy of Engineering)의 회원입니다. 

또한 인간-컴퓨터 상호작용과 정보 시각화에 대한 공로를 인정받아 지금까지 6개의 명예 박사 학위를 수여받았습니다.

Ben Shneiderman is a Distinguished University Professor Emeritus in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Maryland, the founding director of the Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory (HCIL), and a member of the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS).

A pioneer in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and information visualization, he developed clickable hyperlinks, high-precision touchscreen keyboards for mobile devices, and photo tagging functionality. His major publications include Designing the User Interface (6th ed., 2016), Readings in Information Visualization (1999), and Leonardo’s Laptop (MIT Press), which received the IEEE Award for Distinguished Literary Contribution.

He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), and the Visualization Academy, and a member of the National Academy of Engineering.

In recognition of his contributions to HCI and information visualization, he has been awarded six honorary doctorates to date.
